Tincorn Hill Quarry – Public Consultation

Introduction

Breedon Trading Limited is preparing a planning application to develop Tincorn Hill Quarry, located near Sorn in East Ayrshire.

Before submitting the planning application, Breedon is undertaking a pre-application consultation exercise to engage with the public on these proposals. 

The objective of the consultation process is to inform communities about our development proposals and, importantly, to provide an opportunity for the community to communicate their views on the proposed development prior to the submission of a formal planning application to East Ayrshire Council.

Please note that any representation or comment made at this stage is for Breedon’s consideration only and is not regarded as a formal representation to the Council as planning authority on any future planning application. There will be an opportunity to make a formal representation to the Council once an application has been submitted.

The deadline for submitting comments to Breedon is 9 February 2024.


The Proposed Development comprises the following key components:

  • A lateral extension of quarrying operations to the north and east of permitted extraction
  • Deepening of the extended quarry void
  • Restoration of the quarry excavation to a waterbody, native woodland planting and acid grassland/heath
  • This will release circa 17.8 million tonnes of saleable aggregates which would allow for a further 50 years of operations

Breedon will hold two public events in The Cabin, Sorn, to present our proposals for the future development of Tincorn Hill Quarry, answer questions which members of the community have and consider feedback from the community on these proposals.

The details of the public events are as follows; 

Where: The Cabin, 59 Main Street, Sorn, Mauchline, KA5 6HU

When:

  • Tuesday 12 December 2023 between 4pm and 8pm
  • Tuesday 23 January 2024 between 4pm and 8pm


The public events will be available for any interested party or members of the community to drop in.  Exhibition boards will display details of the development proposal and members of the project team will be available to discuss the proposal in detail.   

The exhibition boards, which will be on display during the initial public event, are available in PDF to download in the ‘Documents’ tab below. 

The deadline for the submission of comments on the proposals to Breedon is 9 February 2024, although we encourage comments to be submitted as soon as possible.
