New commercial director for Breedon in Scotland

Breedon Aggregates, the UK’s largest independent aggregates business, has appointed Gordon Liney Commercial Director of its Scottish business.

This new senior role, reporting to Alan Mackenzie, Chief Executive of Breedon Scotland, reflects Breedon’s continuing growth north of the border.  Gordon will be responsible for the overall commercial direction of Breedon’s quarrying operations in Scotland, and will also provide commercial support to Breedon Scotland’s Contracting Director.

Alan Mackenzie commented: “Gordon takes up a key new role in our senior leadership team in Scotland.  He will initially be reviewing our sales systems, regional account management and key account management, as part of a wide-ranging review of the Group’s sales systems.

“He will assume responsibility for our decorative aggregates portfolio and for developing our strategy for high ‘polished stone value’ (PSV) aggregates, the specialist stone with high skid resistance which is in great demand for surfacing roads with high traffic flows.  In addition, he will provide strategic commercial input on a number of major projects, including the dualling of the A9, the new Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and offshore and onshore wind projects throughout Scotland.

Gordon has more than 30 years’ experience in the building materials industry, gained with leading company Lafarge Tarmac, where he held a number of sales, commercial and general management roles.  Most recently, he was Major Projects Manager for the North of England & Scotland and General Manager of Tarmac Caledonian in the North of Scotland.

Gordon lives in Perth and is married with three daughters.   He is a very keen hillwalker and mountaineer and is just about to complete his second round of all the Munros in Scotland.
