Jess Holland, who is 19 and from Chesterfield and Daniel Hobson, who is 18 and from Stoney Middleton, start their apprenticeships at the company’s Cement Works in Derbyshire.

Breedon Group plc – the largest independent construction materials group in the UK continue to demonstrate their commitment to growth by investing in their Apprenticeship Academy programme – this year recruiting eight apprentices across the UK.

Daniel, who starts an electrical apprenticeship with the company, will undertake a four-year programme. The first year will be spent full-time at Chesterfield College working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operation (PEO) four days a week, with the fifth day spent working towards a BTEC Level 3. Jess, who starts a commercial apprenticeship with the company, will be working towards a Level 2 qualification in Business Administration at Buxton and Leek College.

New apprentice Jess said: “I was attracted to the company’s Apprenticeship programme for the business development opportunities that it offered. I look forward to starting my apprenticeship at Hope Cement Works – the company really seems to value its employees.”

Daniel commented: “My school work experience placement was at Hope Cement Works and I was impressed with the company’s approach to safety and the environment. The apprenticeship programme now gives me an opportunity to pursue my passion for engineering.”

The apprenticeship programme combines college education with practical, hands on experience and both apprentices will be provided with a mentor who will support them through the scheme.
